What is it?
Liposuction is an elective procedure to change body contour
and appearance. It may help to resolve the problems of disproportionate
or irregular localized accumulations of fat. Liposuction will
have minimal to no effect on general obesity, excess or loose
skin or body contour irregularities if due to structures other
than fat.
Liposuction is performed on the head, neck, chest, abdomen, thighs,
hips and knees. Dr. Iacono primarily uses the Tumescent technique
on all patients with micro cannulas and oscilatory mechanical
cannulas. Liposuction of all areas is generally done in one sitting
so that proper contouring can be acheived. The Tumescent technique
results in rapid increase in recovery and reduces morbidity.
Dr. Iacono has been performing successful liposuctions since
the procedure's inception in France in the early 90s.
What does it help & not help?
Usually helps with:
disproportional and localized accumulations of fat
Will not help with:
general obesity
body contour irregularies that are not due to fat
(e.g muscle, bone, muscle weakness)
How long will it last? Once removed, fat cells do not reduplicate or reform. Consequently,
reducing the population of fat cells in an area will produce a contour
alteration that is expected to be permanent. The amount of fat contained
in the remaining fat is controlled by diet and excerise. Subsequent
alterations in the body contour may still occur as a result of aging,
weight gain/loss, pregnancy and a variety of other circumstances.
Surgical Considerations Surgery is performed in an accredited outpatient surgery center
or hospital.
